THE Surf Report- Early Edition

I hope you've been training with Healey.

SURF:
Sorry for the lack of THE Surf Report last week, but good things come to those who wait.

But first things first: Not much surf today but if you were patient, you found some stomach high sets from a NW/SW combo. Tomorrow looks to be the same but the buoys up N thankfully are starting to pick up.

By tomorrow afternoon we should have shoulder high sets from the NW as a SW swell fills in too. Along with great weather, I'm authorizing you to split work early (like you needed my encouragement).

Saturday holds then Sunday afternoon we're due for a bigger NW swell as the SW fades. Look for head high+ waves around town and overhead+ waves in SD. Make sure to clear your schedule. Water temps are hovering in the mid-60's and tides the next few days are 3' at sunrise, up to 5' at lunch, and down to 1' at sunset. Speaking of sunrise and sunset, don't forget to set your clocks back Saturday night! That means the sun will now come up at 6:15 for you dawn patrollers and set at 4:45 for you evening glassers.

FORECAST:
After a fun weekend of surf, the NW/SW combo backs off by Tuesday and then we're due for some real surf next week.

Charts show a doozy of a storm forming this weekend in the N Pacific that will give us overhead WNW surf on Wednesday (along with great weather again down here).

Thursday has some leftover surf and by late Friday we're due for an even bigger NW swell. It's still early to predict how big it will be but models have us getting 10' sets in N County SD and double overhead in SD. Is my 6'6" rounded pin going to see the light of day again?! Make sure to keep up to date on the developing storm next week at Twitter/North County Surf.

WEATHER:

This fall is starting to remind me a lot like last fall; great weather and great surf- while Northern California gets the rain. Besides that, no real weather down here to talk about in the forseeable future. Perfect weather in southern California tomorrow and Saturday while a cold front passes by to the N. Low clouds may kick up Sunday/Monday but nothing to be alarmed at. High pressure builds in again early next week and we have great beach weather for the 2nd half of next week. And as soon as I see rain on the horizon, you'll be the first to know. So until then, kick back and chillax.

BEST BET:
Where do I start?! If you want fun surf, then this weekend. If you like to challenge yourself, next Wednesday. And if your name is Dorian, next Friday.

NEWS OF THE WEEK:

If you've followed the THE Surf Report over the years, you've most likely heard of a group I belong to called the North County Board Meeting. It was founded 2 1/2 years ago to help grow local businesses, support charities, network, and make an excuse to surf. Sounds like an odd mix, but it somehow works. Over the years we've supported everything from families in need to healthy living and even the environment. The reason I mention the group is because our next event is a 'Pre-Black Friday Surf Swap' and we'd like you to join us. On Saturday, November 19th, bring your old surf gear to 2777 Loker Ave. W #140 in Carlsbad and sell your stuff for some holiday cash. Cost is $10 to sell your stuff and free if you just want to shop. And we'll have a few surf companies there too where you can load up on holiday gifts. The event is benefitting Boys To Men Mentoring; a community of dedicated men who are able to guide and support young, often fatherless boys on their journey in life. And if you really want to make a difference, bring your old (rideable) board to the event, and Superbrand will give you a $50 certificate to get a new board at superbranded.com. Your old board will then get a new life with the kids at Boys To Men. So come on down from 8AM to 2PM, swap your stuff, buy some stuff, and give back this holiday season. For more information about the event, check out the flier above or email me at northcountysurf@cox.net. Thanks to our event sponsor Hanscom | Alexeev | McDaniel LLP and thanks to you for making a difference in our community.

PIC OF THE WEEK:

You may not know this, but in my spare time, I time travel. I know, laugh, but I have photographic proof. I went back to the year 1878 and took this shot of Lowers. I also did a 720 air this session but of course I couldn't take a shot of myself since I was the only one there. Trust me on this one.

Keep Surfing,

Michael W. Glenn
