Had some fun combo surf on Sunday once the Friday/Saturday storm exited the region. The last couple days have had some leftover dying SW/NW.
Today was waist high around town with the odd chest high set towards the OC. The sun was out early but a big fog bank crept in later in the day. Starting to look like spring around here.
Tides lately have been about 2' at sunrise, up to 5' at 10am, down to 0' at 4pm, and up slightly to 2' again at sunset. Water temps are trying to creep back up to more of a spring time feel with 58 degree readings. Not ready for a springsuit anytime soon though.
As mentioned above, the fog has been sitting at the coast the past couple days while inland it's been warm. High pressure is forecasted to strengthen slightly the next few days and temps should hit the mid-80's inland. What does that mean for the coast? Tricky forecast that one- the cool fog may stick around while just a mile inland it's in the mid-70's. OR... high pressure exerts it's force just enough and pushes the fog out to sea. Hmm, which will it be? Guess we'll have to find out tomorrow. After that, high pressure should break down this weekend and we'll be back to low clouds/fog in the morning burning off to hazy afternoon sunshine early next week. Models show a chance of showers the middle of next week but that's still a long way off.
So what does the future hold for our surf plans? Not much unfortunately. We're almost to spring and the north Pacific seems to be shutting down. We have some NW windswell trying to form off Point Conception Friday night so we may have some chest high sets down in SD on Saturday.
Since spring is around the corner, the Southern Hemisphere seems to be coming to life. In the near term we only have background SW swell for the next 5-7 days and the OC will have some chest high sets. But then models show a small storm forming around the 14th which should give north county SD some chest high sets around the 21st and then the storm re-strengthens for better surf around the 23rd. Hopefully we'll see some head high+ sets in the OC and shoulder high waves in north county SD. Until then though it's just some small surf for most everyone in southern California. Bummer!
