Surf Check

Still had some fun shoulder high sets today from the NW. The low clouds put a damper on it (seemed like the Summer of '11 around here) but it did keep the crowds down.
The NW is in a slow decline tomorrow but we should still have some chest high waves around town and maybe an inconsistent bigger set towards SD. Water temps are holding at 57.
Tides the next few days are 6' at sunrise, dropping quick to -1' at 1pm, and back up to 3' at sunset.
Good news is that we have more NW coming late Thursday. And it's going to be a few feet overhead!
Bad news is that the storm that generated the surf is going to be bringing showers and wind along with it. I always act like I'm surprised when we get rain- it is winter, isn't it? Anyway, it's not the wettest storm- we may only get 1/2" around here, but it should be windy. Probably 25 mph at the coast. Look for the S winds to increase on Thursday, then turn WSW on Friday, and finally NW as the storm clears out on Saturday. Sunday looks to be cold, clear, and NE offshore winds early in the morning. The swell should also be dropping by then but we'll still have head high sets and jumbled conditions. After Monday we look to have a slow warming trend to start the work week.
Further out on the surf forecast front, looks like we have another storm forming in the Aleutians but it should break up about 1/2 out in the Pacific. We may get some more shoulder high waves from it though towards next Tuesday. I was also hoping a few days ago for a storm to hold together in the southern hemisphere and send us a fun SW towards early next week but it looks pretty small on the charts today and it's mainly going E to W (not aimed at us in an ideal N to S direction). If anything, the OC may get some waist high+ waves from it towards Tuesday next week.

Long story short- lots of junky surf to start the weekend and a little bit of showers. Early next week looks to be cleaner and still some fun NW in the water.

Have a good week everyone.
