What was that phrase your mom told you as a little kid? Was it "If you have nothing nice to say, then don't say it at all"? Well after this Surf Check, my mom will be washing my mouth out with soap. So here goes nothing:
We've had a couple little blips on the radar the past week- some fun surf about a week ago then a little boost this past weekend but nothing big. Today we had tiny SW and tiny NW- pretty much non-existent- but at least the water has warmed back up to the high-60's. So we got that going for us.
Tides the next few days are about 0' at sunrise, 5' before lunch, down to 1' late afternoon, and up to 4' at sunset.
As far as our weather goes, we've had an unusual weak low pressure system sitting off the northern California coast the past few days. Temps have been running a few degrees cooler than normal at the coast and about 10 degrees cooler than normal inland. Which is good if you live in Riverside (85 feels better than 95) but a bummer at the coast (75 would feel better than 70 right now). Luckily the low should move inland towards Friday and we should warm up a few degrees over the weekend as well as get less low clouds around here.
So what's on tap for the surf? Well... we had a little storm- more like some clouds spinning in the southern hemisphere last week- and it will shoot us some waist high+ SW towards Thursday and chest high sets in the OC. That will last into Friday.
After that, there's nothing on the charts unfortunately. We've got some wind in the Aleutians which may give us knee high NW swell towards Friday in SD. Currently we have two storms in the tropics- Gil and Henriette- but they're both moving away from us- towards Hawaii- so we won't see any surf from them. And in the southern hemisphere, there are no organized storms, just some spinning clouds, so we won't see any solid surf from this region for at least 7-10 days. So until then- looks like this Thursday is the day to get waist high+ waves around town. Wavepools don't sound like such a bad idea right about now.
