Surf Check

Had some fun surf yesterday as a weak storm Sunday exited the region and left us with clean conditions and a lumpy shoulder high groundswell/windswell combo from the NW. As usual, the wind and air temps were downright frigid. Dawn patrols have been around high 30's/low 40's the past couple weeks and the water temps are getting colder- now sitting at 58 degrees.

Today we have a drop in the swell for waist to chest high+ waves around town and a consistently shoulder high set in south county SD. It's clear and cold again this morning with light offshore winds. Tomorrow unfortunately looks to be even smaller.

Tides the next few days are almost 7' at sunrise, down to -1' at 2pm, and back up slightly to 1' at sunset. Make sure to plan your session accordingly due to the wide tide swings.

As we peer into the future, looks like we have solid NW headed our way for Thursday. And we have solid wind and showers too. Look for the NW to pick up late Wednesday and by Thursday morning it's victory at sea with overhead sets. Depending on how fast the cold front moves out of here, we either have N winds early Friday morning or NE. There should also be leftover head high lumpy NW swell.

In regards to the weather, it will be a cold and windy storm but not much rain associated with it. Look for clouds to increase tomorrow night and some showers on Thursday but only around 1/10". By Friday it should be cold and clear. So cold in fact, high temps may only be 55 degrees and the low at the coast in the low 40's. Temps rebound slightly for the weekend but only to 60 degrees.

For the long range surf forecast, looks like the NW will only be a shell of itself by the weekend- in the chest high range in south SD and by early next week it's pretty flat around here. Long story short, even though it may be storm surf later this week, it's all that we got. Get on it quick!
