Currently though we have some small SW and a touch of tiny NW. Most surf spots were flat this morning due to the 7' high tide but if you could find a good sandbar- that didn't have backwash- you might have gotten a waist high set. Tomorrow unfortunately looks to be the same. Just not a lot of big swell producing storms out there for us.
And whatever little surf we do have, the 7.5' high tides at breakfast and -1.5' low tide mid afternoon are just screwing everything up. What may have looked fun an hour ago is totally different now. And I guess on the flip side, whatever looked like awful an hour ago may be good now!
Regardless of the huge tide variations, we should get a little surf by late Thursday. We've got some NW windswell/groundswell arriving (along with some rain) and we'll be back to shoulder high sets around town. SD will have some head high+ waves. That will last through Saturday.
As advertised above, we have some rain headed our way. So whatever surf we get, it will be junky. Look for low clouds to thicken tomorrow night and SW winds to pick up slightly. By Thursday morning we're in for 1/2" of rain and SW winds of 15mph+. We need the rain so I can't complain. That will linger into Friday morning and the winds will turn more to the WNW. At least the crowds will be kept to a minimum. After that we may have another shot at rain Sunday evening but models can't agree yet.
Once the weekend waves/weather clean up, we've got nicer weather for the beginning of the work week and small conditions. Sound familiar to the past few days? Charts above show a couple storms brewing and we may get a solid NW towards the 20th. And a bigger swell behind that towards Xmas. Wouldn't that be a great present?
Nothing really from the southern hemisphere- it is the offseason so I can't really give it crap. There's a little bump on the model shown above and if it amounts to anything, we may get another waist high SW for the OC around the 23rd.
All in all some storm surf this weekend and hopefully some bigger NW the middle of next week!
