Surf Check

Had little waist high+ waves from the SW today if you didn't mind the breezy SW winds and super high tide tonight.

Not much to report on the last few days. Just a slow decline in the NW and some background SW around here to keep us honest.

Tides have been around 1' at sunrise, up to 4' at breakfast, down to 1' again after lunch, then up to a thick 6' at sunset. Water was warm again tonight- about 70 degrees. But a couple of the buoys around southern California have had some readings in the mid-60's. Not sure if some localized upwelling or the recent cloudy days have influenced the thermometers or what, but don't be surprised if you have to wear a springsuit this weekend.
Looks like the weather is trying to sort itself out the next few days. No Indian Summer unfortunately but no June Gloom either. Look for night/morning low clouds and fog turning into mostly sunny afternoons. Temps will be about 60 at night and 70 during the day.
Speaking of the surf this weekend, you've probably heard about the big SW swell coming late tomorrow. If you haven't, then you don't surf or you've been working too hard. Long story short, we had a BIG storm in the southern hemisphere last week that it's resulting swell is hitting the Hawaiian Islands tonight. We should see some fun sets here later tomorrow. By Thursday evening, things are in full swing and most beaches with good SW exposure will have 10' sets with best OC spots hitting double overhead. The Wedge should have the odd 18'+ bomb. South San Diego will even pull in some head high to overhead sets. Unfortunately there's no real NW windswell to speak of, so hit a jetty, reef, pier, or point break to find any shape. Friday will be solid as the swell starts to wind down and Saturday still looks pretty good for overhead waves.
Models are showing some NW windswell trying to form towards Saturday but the angle is pretty steep and it will most likely bypass us here in so-Cal. It MIGHT break up the remaining SW swell by Sunday but don't hold your breath.
Further out, the charts show some smaller storms in the southern hemisphere trying to send us SW swell but I'm pretty underwhelmed compared to the SW swell that's coming this weekend. If we do get any chest high+ surf from them, it will most likely be late next weekend. So until then, enjoy the bombing swell the 2nd half of this week!
