Encnitas' Very Own Bermuda Triangle

There's been a lot of activity the past year on the south end of downtown Encinitas. Specifically K Street and Highway 101.
The new Rip Curl shop next to Hansen's sprouted up in March.
The new pedestrian crossing opened up under the train tracks at Swami's this January.
And now the former odd painted road triangle/bus stop is being built into a small pocket park/walkway/bus stop. The city says:

"Since no facilities are available on the east side of Highway 101 at K Street, pedestrians must walk on the west side and traverse a large paved area (technically 1st Street) sandwiched between two lanes of traffic. The asphalt island area is potentially dangerous for pedestrians, particularly for those people needing accessible facilities and for people who must wait at the bus stop in the middle of the island area. Pedestrians are separated from the passing cars only by traffic striping. This project proposes to replace the isolated island area with a landscaped area and new sidewalks. In addition to providing upgraded ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities and a safer bus stop that will facilitate the use of public transportation, the K Street park will aesthetically enhance this portion of Highway 101, which is designated in the General Plan as a scenic highway/ visual corridor viewshed. The K Street Improvements will also create a safe route for residents traveling to the Santa Fe Drive railroad pedestrian undercrossing just completed and a beautiful gateway to Cardiff by the Sea."
Pretty cool considering the city is making something out of nothing. Well, there was a triangle painted on the street and the bus stop was there before- but you know what I mean. Nice to see asphalt turn to greenery instead of the other way around. I'm thinking the job should be completed sometime in late October.
