Surf Check 4/3/12

Amazingly, we still have surf. That big NW over the weekend is slowly dying but still giving us shoulder high waves. There is some little SW underneath it all too for chest high waves. Combo spots in north county are giving us head high sets. And the weather is finally cooperating to boot. A good day to get some waves after work.

After the mellow tides we had last week, tides are starting to swing a little bit; we've got a 0' tide this afternoon, up to almost 5' at sunset, and the mornings are around 5' too. Water is a chilly 58 degrees.
We've got great weather on tap today but as shown in the picture above, we have a weak front moving down the state tonight. We should have a return of low clouds and fog Wednesday and Thursday. High pressure kicks back in though Friday and at least through Monday we'll have great beach weather again with temps in the mid to high 70's and clear skies.
On the surf side of things, only locally generated NW windswell is on tap with some background SW swell towards Thursday. With high pressure taking control this weekend, storms in the north Pacific are getting blocked and we don't have much size from the SW either this weekend- we should though get a SW chest high bump Sunday afternoon. So look for great weather this weekend and not much surf until late. We should though have more WNW towards the beginning of next week.

South Pacific charts though show a little storm forming towards the 10th which sould give the OC some head high sets around the 17th.
