Surf Check

There's some fun surf today IF... you can dodge the tides and head N or S.
We had peaking NW and SW last night and spots around town are waist high with chest high sets. If you're down in SD you have chest high+ waves from the NW and far north OC has chest high+ sets from the combo NW/SW swells.
Water temps are still low 60's and the tides the past week have been playing havoc with the swells. It's either a monster tide near 7' in the mornings or -1' in the late afternoon. That's an 8' tide swing! So if you paddle out and it looks fun, chances are an hour later it's going to be completely different due to the radical tide swings.
As far as our weather goes, we have fantastic conditions as high pressure has set up shop and air temps are in the low 70's. We warm up slightly for tomorrow and Thursday with beach temps near the high 70's. Then a weak low pressure system moves by to the north this weekend and we get cooler temps in the high 60's and more night and morning low clouds/fog. Early next week high pressure should set up again.
So what's the surf doing the next few days? Well the current NW/SW will back off and by Thursday it's pretty flat around here. Did I mention the weather will be nice though? Then we get a little shot of NW windswell late Friday into Saturday for waist high+ waves in north county SD and chest high waves in south SD. Things slow down on Sunday and we have cool/cloudy conditions anyway so it's a bummer all the way around.
We get a similar sized NW bump for Monday afternoon next week that holds into Tuesday. Hopefully our weather will cooperate by then. All in all some small NW for Friday/Saturday as the low clouds move in for the weekend then better weather and another little NW for Monday/Tuesday.
The southern hemisphere is dead- as it should be this time of year- but models show a little storm trying to take hold today. If it amounts to anything, the OC may get some knee high+ surf from the SW towards next Wednesday the 13th. Don't count on it though- it's looking pretty meager.

So until then, enjoy the nice weather, little NW swells, and pray we get some bigger surf the 2nd half of November!
