THE Surf Report

Mother Nature can't seem to make up her mind. At least we can all agree the Easter Bunny is real!

SURF:
That was some of the best surf and weather last weekend that I can remember in a long time. And it was nice enough to roll into this past week too.
Today we had some leftover SW swell along with a new NW windswell for more head high sets. The weather was a little cooler today than it has been- but don't worry- Mother Nature will right the ship tomorrow as we've got sunny skies and temps back in the high 70's in store. As far as our surf goes, the SW will die over the weekend as well as the NW but we'll still have shoulder high sets Friday, and chest high sets Saturday/Sunday.
Tides the next few days are 3' at sunrise, rising to 4.5' mid-morning, dropping to 0' mid-afternoon and rising back to 3' at sunset. And it's almost trunkable out there with water temps at 67 degrees and air temps in the high 70's. Make sure to keep up to date on the waves/weather at Twitter/North County Surf!

FORECAST:

The SW will be gone on Monday but the NW windswell kicks back in for shoulder high sets and head high in SD. We get a brief lull Tuesday as a cold front moves into the area but as it does, the NW will pick up again Wednesday afternoon for messy head high sets and overhead waves in SD.
We also have a storm in the southern hemisphere today that will send us fun chest high SW for late next weekend. And the weather should clean up by then too.

WEATHER:

Not sure what to make of our weather. High temperatures were broken in March (see the News of the Week section below) and now the forecast next week calls for rain?! Looks like Nor-Cal will get a soaking and only showers down here- but beggars can't be choosers. But let's talk about tomorrow first. High pressure is setting up and we'll get temps back in the high 70's again. Saturday is a little cooler but still nice. Then the clouds start to thicken on Easter and it gets considerably cooler by Monday. By Tuesday we get some showers if the models are right and maybe into Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed! Knock on wood! Pray! Do whatever it takes since we're only at 50% of normal for rain this season.

BEST BET:
Tomorrow is looking pretty fun with leftover SW, continuing NW windswell, and great weather.

NEWS OF THE WEEK:

We all know that March was hot- like August hot- but did it break any records? Boy did it ever. The National Weather Service was kind enough to put together these facts to scare the hell out of us...

March 2015 was the hottest on record for most of southern California. Here are some facts about the March 2015 temperatures for San Diego:

The average temperature of 66.6 degrees was the highest for any March on record. This smashed the old record by 2.3 degrees which was set back in 1978. This is the greatest margin of defeat in history for March or for any other month of the year.

This was the San Diego’s 17th straight warmer-than-normal month. The first quarter of 2015, January through March, was even warmer than the same period in 2014- which ended up as the warmest year on record.

The temperature hit 89 degrees or higher for 3 straight days, March 13-15 and 87 or higher for 4 straight days. These are the only occurrences of this ever happening during March.

The minimum temperature of 68 degrees on March 15 was the highest on record for any date in March. This was followed by the second warmest on the 16th- and preceded by the third warmest on the 14th.

On seven days this month the temperature reached 80 degrees or higher- record for March. This blasted the previous record of five days which occurred in 1988 and 1947.

This past winter- December 21, 2014 through March 20, 2015- was warmer than any previous winter on record with an average temperature of 62.4 degrees. This surpasses the 61.9 degree record set in 1978.

4 daily maximum temperatures were broken...and 7 daily high minimum  temperatures were tied or broken.

PIC OF THE WEEK:

There's three things that amaze me about this photo of Ala Moana:
1. How round that damn barrel is.
2. The rip tide looks like an absolute beast.
3. WHERE THE HECK IS EVERYONE?!
