Even though it felt like summer today, the water is still ridiculously cold at 58 degrees. So a 4/3 fullsuit isn't out of the question. And with wetsuit technology nowadays, a 4/3 is as flexible as a 3/2 from a couple years back and much warmer of course. So when is a good time to buy one? Right now of course. But you say the water will start warming up soon and you won't need a fullsuit. On the contrary- unless you plan on giving up surfing altogether, you'll definitely surf again next winter. And this is the time that fullsuits are on sale. I've had a 4/3 O'Neill Psycho 1 the past few years and I love it. Warm in waters down to the low 50's, flexible, and durable except when getting dragged across the reef at Shipsterns- which isn't a problem for me. Made from 100% UltraFlex DS neoprene with chest and back firewall insulation, it's a cold-water killer, and the ingenious Z.E.N. Zip Closure system makes for great flexibility and easy on/off functionality. Other features include: Plasma Seals, a single superseal neck, lumbar seamless design, drain hole, and Krypto knee padz. Normally this suit runs for $325 at retail during the peak winter retail season. But now shops across the country are clearing out their stock and making room for boardshorts. One of the best deals I found was mega surf retailer Jack's Surfboards. They've got this top of the line suit listed for $227- that's close to $100 off. Don't worry- you don't have to go to Jack's to pick it up. Go on-line to Jack's Surfboards and have it delivered to you. Sure you may only use it for the next month before the water warms up to the low 60's- but next winter when the water temps drop like a rock, you'll be ready to go with your new suit- and be stoked you saved some dough in the process. Just ask O'Neill team rider Jordy Smith. He backs 'em. Doubt he's paying full price for his suits- but still- he looks good rippin' in 'em.
