Surf Check 3/9/11

Beautiful day today- beach temps are in the mid-70's- but just some leftover NW windswell to ride. Water temp dropped slightly from all the NW winds we've had the last few days- it's hovering around 57 degrees- typical for late winter/early spring. Speaking of wind, it's pretty light today- around 7mph from the NW in SD and SW in the OC. No real pick up in surf for the rest of the day; Point Conception buoy is pretty meager- just 3.8' from the N and 1.1' from the S.
Cabo has had a fun SW the last few days and good news is that Point Conception isn't picking it up yet as it hasn't worked it's way up the coast. Buoy readings in SD and OC have 22 and 20 second readings from 200-180 degrees- just a precursor to that fun chest high+ SW which should show tomorrow. We also have a fun NW due to arrive Friday for more chest high waves in north SD/OC and slightly bigger in south SD. With new NW and SW arriving towards the end of the week, most spots in so-Cal should have rideable waves. Further out, models show a good storm brewing in the Pacific.
Head high NW waves should arrive to north SD/OC by Monday. South SD of course will be slightly bigger and south OC slightly smaller. Weather should cooperate too- one more warm day tomorrow then typical early morning fog returns Friday. Should be fun surf the next few days and no storms to mess it up.
