Today's episode of Boardz N The Hood is brought to you by a friend of mine for almost 30 years, Brett Marquardt. I first met Brett when we worked for Eric 'Bird' Huffman at South Coast Surf Shop back in the early 90's. It was always about style first for Brett and he's a guy in which age is just a number. Even at 52, he's usually one of the better guys in the water. Just like Kelly Slater, Brett won't slow down and ride bigger boards the older he gets. But he doesn't have to- he still surfs like he's in his 30's. Most of Brett's boards are modern shred sleds (except for the 6'2" Offshore- but more on that below), and just like the rest of us, he's itching to get back in the water. Brett is like a leprechaun- he's elusive if you're trying to find him in the surf. He's allergic to crowds and mostly likely the guy 100 yards down the beach surfing by himself- putting on a clinic.
Here's the 411 on Brett and his boards in my neighborhood:
- Age: 52
- Height: 5'9"
- Weight: 155
- Years surfing: 38 (or maybe his real age)
- Favorite spot: Cloudbreak
- Favorite board: 5'5" Chemistry D3
Quiver:
- 5'5" Chemistry D3
- 5'8" Chemistry Alchemist Remix
- 5'11" Byrne "Shaq" Twin Fin + 1
- 5'11" Chemistry Liquid Sword
- 6'1" Chemistry R2 Plus
- 6'1" Ezera Pro Model
- 6'2" Offshore by Michael Baron
- 6'5" Chemistry Super Model
Thanks to Brett for dragging his boards out of the garage today. What you think is a 15 minute project ends up being 2 hours as you ultimately dive into the details of the boards and the stories behind them. If we can't surf, we might as well talk about it. Thanks for watching and make sure to be ready for when the beaches open back up again!
