Surf Check 5/8/12

Still some fun little surf today with primarily chest high sets in far north county/OC from the SW with a touch of small NW. The negative tide this morning and overcast conditions makes it look a little ugly but once the sun comes out and tide fills in, there should be some little rideable waves around town this afternoon.

Speaking of tides, we've got a -1.5 tide at sunrise, going up quickly to 4' at lunchtime and dropping slightly to 2.5 at dinner. Winds should be typical today too with afternoon sea breezes from the SW at 10. Water temps are a comfortable 64 degrees.
Our weather the next few days will be off and on but generally nice. Today we'll have hazy afternoon sunshine starting around mid-morning and tomorrow/Friday it will take a little bit longer to burn off. High pressure builds this weekend and we'll have great weather with limited low clouds and temps in the low 70's.
So what does the surf hold in store for the weekend? Well a few days ago I was expecting the NW windswell to fill in towards Friday but it looks like Thursday now. Expect some chest high sets in north county SD and shoulder high sets in south SD. Along with the leftover SW swell, there should be fun waves in north county SD and north OC. That will last through Friday.
We've also had some activity in the southern hemisphere last weekend that should arrive late Sunday into Monday. Nothing too organized but we should have some head high sets in the OC and shoulder high sets in north county SD.

In a nut shell, look for new NW on Thursday and background SW, smaller surf this weekend but nice weather, and a better SW for early next week!
