Looks like June Gloom has stuck around for July unfortunately. Today we had a little bit of NW windswell on top of small SW groundswell for stomach high sets. Not flat but not exactly all that exciting- especially with the partly cloudy skies all day. SW wind wasn't that strong- about 8mph all day- but it blew early and is still blowing this evening.
All in all it's not going to change much tomorrow for Independence Day. Look for small SW/NW swells again for waist high plus waves, water temps in the high 60's for SD and mid 60's for the OC, and partial clearing at the beaches after lunch.
The tides are about the only interesting thing going on tomorrow with a -1.5' tide before sunrise going to almost 5' before lunch, then down to 1.5' late afternoon, and up to almost 7' after sunset.
On the surf forecast front, we've got NW windswell hanging around tomorrow then backing off Thursday/Friday then reforming for the weekend for more waist high waves. We did though have a little activity in the southern hemisphere last week and we should get a chest high SW swell towards Friday into the weekend. At least it's something. After that, the southern hemisphere goes quiet which is hard to believe it can get any quieter since it's been WEAK down there the past 2 months.
But fear not- the tropics are getting busy again and this time they look like they won't slam into Mainland Mexico thankfully. The 1st storm tonight is starting to organize and should be a tropical storm tomorrow. It's moving WNW at 10mph and looks to be promising. Hopefully it will be a hurricane by Thursday night and in our swell window. We should get chest high surf by late Sunday if that's the case (and bigger in the OC). Charts then show a second storm a few days after that may be slightly bigger. Nothing has organized yet but keep your fingers crossed. If everything holds up, we should get surf the towards Tuesday of next week. Hey- anything is better than small NW windswell and a flat southern hemisphere.
