Surf Check

Had some fun SW yesterday with a touch of NW windswell finally. Saw some peaky head high waves along with warm 74 degree water.
Today the NW faded away and the SW dropped slightly but there were still chest high+ waves around town and shoulder high sets towards the OC. Tomorrow the SW backs off a little bit more for waist to chest high waves and more warm water.
Tides the next few days are 3.5' at sunrise, down slightly to 2.5' mid-morning, up to 5.5' before dinner, and down slightly to 4' at sunset.
The weather is pretty boring the next few days as we have night/morning low clouds/fog and hazy afternoon sunshine with temps in the low 70's. Weak low pressure to the north of us will make the clouds take longer to burn off each day Wednesday/Thursday. Friday though high pressure kicks back in and we have more sun and temps in the mid-70's. The weekend then departs and you guessed it- the low clouds/fog get a little thicker towards the beginning of next week. Basically some nice mild summer weather off and on the next 7 days.

After the smaller surf on Wednesday, we start to see a slow increase from the SW late Thursday afternoon. We had a small intense storm last week in Antarctica that lasted a few days and we'll see good SW on Friday and peaking head high+ waves on Saturday. We even get a touch of small waist high NW windswell which should help peak up the beachbreaks.
We also have a new tropical storm by the name of Norbert off Baja moving towards the NW. Now before you get all 'Marie' on me, listen first...
  • There's a fair amount of wind shear associated with this storm so Norbert won't have a chance to build up like Marie
  • Norbert is expected to hug the coast of Baja so we'll be shadowed from it's peak swell
  • Top wind speeds are only forecasted to be 65mph (Lowell was 80mph and Marie was 160)
So with all that bad news, we may still get some small chest high waves towards Monday from it.

After that, the southern and northern hemisphere's are looking pretty dismal. There's one small storm on the charts for tomorrow that may give the OC some chest high waves around the 10th of September, that but that's about it. So get some good surf this weekend while you can and hope that Norbert overachieves!
