Surf Check

Not much out there except a lot of hot offshore wind and smoke. Not a big fan of Santa Ana's- they kill the swell, drop the water temps, and increase the threat of wildfires here in north county. So on that note...
We've got some tiny NW windswell in the water today and small SW that's showing best in the OC. Down here it's about waist high+ and the OC has some chest high sets. Winds are currently blowing ENE at 20 and smoke is increasing from a fire out in the hills of 4S Ranch and Del Sur. Don't expect to surf from Encinitas to La Jolla this evening unless you like to cough.
Water temps are holding at 62 but with all this offshore wind, it should plummet like a rock before week's end. Tides the next few days are about 1' at sunrise, rising to 4' mid-morning, dropping to 1' again mid-afternoon, and up to 5' at sunset.
As far as our weather goes, we have strengthening high pressure which will peak tomorrow with air temps in the mid to high 90's at the coast and stronger (if you can believe it) offshore winds. Thursday will still be hot and gusty and by Friday we may see a break with lighter winds and temps in the mid-80's. A cold front is forecasted to move through the northwest this weekend so it may kick up our low clouds/fog on Saturday morning/night and we'll have temps in the mid-70's finally. Sunday looks to have more night and early morning low clouds/fog as well as temps around 70.
As far as our surf goes, we had a storm off Antarctica last week that sent some due S swell our way that will fill in tomorrow. We should see some chest high waves around here with bigger sets towards the OC. The tiny NW will back off due to the high pressure and offshore winds so expect some lined up conditions with just the S in the water.
As high pressure breaks down this weekend and the weather cools, we'll get some NW winds off Point Conception this weekend and the NW windswell will return- helping to peak up the S swell. Nothing big but maybe some waist high waves towards Sunday and chest high in SD.
Just as the NW fills in, more SW swell will show on Saturday afternoon. This one should have some chest high+ waves for us and head high+ sets in the OC by Sunday.
Models then show some more SW trying to take shape in a few days which would give us another round of surf towards the middle of next week. All in all some fun SW swells showing up- along with NW windswell again this weekend- and milder weather towards Saturday.
