Surf Check 9/13/11

Got some fun surf today and maybe a little weather in the inland valleys. Today there's a chest high SW swell running with head high sets in far north SD and slightly overhead sets in the OC. Not much NW in the water so beachbreaks are a little lined up- best bet is a reef, jetty, or pier.

Water temps are in the mid-60's and we've got a little weather overhead today. Seems as though low pressure off our coast is sucking in tropical moisture from the south. The coast is just on the edge of the weather system so the we'll see some big clouds and maybe lightening just inland from us.

Currently we have typical low clouds/fog at the coast and that should break up mid-morning. Forecast charts show a little more low clouds/fog towards the end of the week (typical) then high pressure should set up next week for great warm late summer weather.

Wind is currently light from the W at 5 but should blow around 10 mph later today. Tides are 2' at sunrise, 5' at 11am, 0' at 5pm, and back to 2' at sunset.

Looking further out we have a little bump from NW groundswell/windswell action towards Thursday which should give shoulder high sets in far south SD. Other than that the southern hemisphere and tropics haven't been too impressive and the 2nd half of this week should be quiet from the SW- so get on it this week!
